GIRLS
Monique Allegre
SCHOOL: Camarillo
SPORT: Tennis
YEAR: Junior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: A top 16-and-under Junior player who is seeded sixth by the Southern California Tennis Assn., Allegre finished 42-3 in single-set matches during the regular season and 4-1 in best-of-three-set matches in the postseason. She finished with a flourish last week, reaching the semifinals of the Southern Section individual tournament.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Unseeded Allegre beat San Bernardino Pacific’s Gina Pelazini, 6-3, 7-5, in the round of 16, then pulled off an upset in the quarterfinals in the section tournament, defeating third-seeded Laura Ruben of Mater Dei, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, at the Irvine Racquet Club. She lost the next day in the semifinals to second-seeded Pam Trump of Arcadia, 6-3, 7-5. Trump lost to top-seeded Amanda Agustus of Peninsula, 6-3, 6-4, in the final. It was a nice turnaround for Allegre, who lost in the first round of a national indoor tournament the previous weekend.
