The Glendora boys’ basketball team has shown all the characteristics of a Southern Section championship contender.

The Tartans, under Coach Mike LeDuc, improved to 10-0 with a 60-46 victory over San Dimas in the championship game of the Glendora tournament last weekend.

Glendora’s Cameron Murray, a senior guard who will attend USC next year, scored 31 points in the championship game. Greg Jacobsen added 19.

Jamar Bailey scored 16 points and Jeremy Veal added 15 for San Dimas, which entered this week 8-1.

The Covina boys’ basketball team has displayed a knack for defeating unbeaten teams.

The Colts, under Coach David Sanderson, entered the week 6-3 after defeating previously unbeaten Arroyo, Charter Oak and Mountain View en route to the championship of the Azusa tournament.

Forward Mark Gozun, who scored 21 points in the Colts’ 56-45 championship game victory over Mountain View, was named most valuable player of the tournament.

Barbara Agent of Glendora was named most valuable player of the San Dimas girls’ basketball tournament after leading the Tartans to the championship.

Agent scored 13 points in a 53-33 victory over San Dimas in the championship game as Glendora improved to 8-1.

Tommy Montoya of Baldwin Park won the 119-pound division and was named most valuable wrestler in the lower weights as Baldwin Park won the West Coast classic at Rosemead High.

Gustavo Fonseca of Baldwin Park won the 125-pound division.

Other San Gabriel Valley winners include Andrew Durben of South Hills (160) and Eddie Fukuma of Alhambra (189).

COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Citrus College will be the practice site for Wisconsin in preparation for the Rose Bowl game against UCLA on New Year’s Day.

Wisconsin will practice at Citrus Dec. 26-31, but all workouts are closed to the public.

This is the 11th time that Citrus has served as the practice site for a Big Ten Conference team.

Three members of the Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team were selected All-South Coast Conference.

Sophomore setter Yanina Gherardi, who led the conference in assists, sophomore hitter Aimee Peinado and freshman hitter Tiffanie Hattori were first-team selections.

COLLEGES

Jim Milhon, who has a 80-61-4 record in 16 seasons as coach of the Azusa Pacific football team, will retire at the end of the 1994 season, the school announced.

Azusa Pacific finished 3-6 last season.

Milhon attended Bonita High and La Verne University and coached for 14 years at Northview High before taking over the program at Azusa Pacific.

A national search for a new coach will begin in the next few months. The school hopes to name a successor by January of 1995.

The Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball team entered the week 8-2 after a loss to Northern Colorado and victories over Denver and Regis.

Senior center Mildred Conston led the Broncos, averaging 22 points and 9.3 rebounds a game.

Pomona plays an exhibition game against the University of Alberta (Canada) on Thursday and plays Wayne State at home on Dec. 31.

The Cal Poly Pomona men’s basketball team entered the week 7-5, having won four consecutive games.

The Broncos beat San Francisco State--ranked 15th in NCAA Division II--63-61, and routed Pacific Christian, 123-77.

Pomona, which defeated Menlo College Monday, 63-53, will play host to UC Davis this Tuesday.

PREP ATHLETE OF WEEK

Mark Gozun, Covina--Gozun, a forward, led the Colts to consecutive victories over three previously unbeaten teams en route to the championship of the Azusa basketball tournament.

Covina beat Arroyo, Charter Oak and Mountain View for the title. Gozun scored 28 points in a 93-82 semifinal victory over Charter Oak and 21 points in a 56-45 championship game victory over Mountain View.

COLLEGE ATHLETE OF WEEK

Mildred Conston, Cal Poly Pomona--Conston, a senior center, scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Broncos in a 73-55 victory over Regis University that improved Pomona’s record to 8-2.

Conston, an All-American last season, is averaging 22 points and 9.3 rebounds.
