GIRLS’ BASKETBALL : Villa Park to Play for Title After Defeating Buena Park

Maureen Skehan had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Michelle Miyake added 14 to help Villa Park beat Buena Park, 56-38, and advance to the title game of its own round-robin tournament Wednesday.

Buena Park had balanced scoring led by Angela Boles with 10 points. The Spartans will face University for the championship at 3:30 p.m. today.

In other tournament games:

University 58, Calvary Chapel 32--Mary Medina had 14 points, six assists and seven steals, Jennifer Stanley had 14 points and Heather Snavely added 12 to lead University (3-2).

Blythe Linsey scored a game-high 27 points for Calvary Chapel.

Villa Park JV 36, Aliso Niguel 25--Meagan Szilagyi scored 14 points for the Villa Park JV as it notched its fourth victory against a varsity team this year.

In the La Puente tournament:

Los Altos 35, La Habra 28--Sydney Rogers had 10 points for La Habra (5-4), which plays Hacienda Heights Wilson at 6 tonight for third place.

In nonleague play:

Mater Dei 90, El Modena 36--Sophomore guard Melody Peterson had 29 points and senior forward Leticia Osegura added 23 points to lead Mater Dei (7-1). Jamie Shine had 11 points for El Modena (1-5).

Troy 47, Valencia 45--In the final minute, Dinah Shah had a steal and layup, then Janea Butler made one free throw to provide the winning margin for Troy, which outscored Valencia 13-4 in the fourth quarter.

Jennie Gadd had 20 points and eight rebounds for Troy. Sophomore Shelly Gamba had 12 points for Valencia.

Western 62, Los Alamitos 35--Jennifer Christensen scored a game-high 23 points, including three three-pointers, for Western (4-6). Isabel Rojas added 20 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists and Adrian Ratajczak had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Pioneers.

Myesha Williams scored 11 points for Los Alamitos (3-4).
