Post-Christmas Bird Count Field Trip--The Sea & Sage chapter of the National Audubon Society will hold its post-Christmas Bird Count specialties field trip on Saturday.

The purpose of the annual event is to look for the highlights of the birds spotted during the chapter’s two local Christmas Bird Counts. The northeastern count was held Dec. 19 and the coastal count is being held today.

A schedule for the day will be distributed at the start of the trip, which begins at 8 a.m. at Huntington Central Park.

The trip group will meet at the park’s Slater Street parking lot. To reach it, take the San Diego Freeway to the Golden West Street exit, go south. Turn left at Slater and the park and parking lot will be on the right.

Those who take the trip are asked to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to get wet feet from walking on wet grass. It is also suggested that those participating bring a warm jacket.

Participants are also asked to bring an Orange County map to help find the other birding locations. The length of the trip will depend upon how many different locations in which the highlighted birds were spotted. The trip will probably last the entire day.

Each of the walks will be led by Chris Obaditch.

Advance reservations are not necessary. Beginning and advanced bird-watchers are welcome.

Binoculars will be provided for those who do not have their own.

To reach the Audubon House, where the walk will start, take the San Diego Freeway to the Jamboree Road exit, head south. Turn left at Michelson Drive, and then right at the second signal onto Irvine Ranch Water District property. Follow the paved road and “Duck Club” signs to the house.
