Mike Smith Gets Off to a Fast Start at Calder

Mike Smith, who broke the record for stakes victories by a jockey in a year with 62 in 1993, had two at Calder Race Course on Saturday.

He rode favored Trampoli to victory in the $150,000 La Prevoyante Handicap and Take Me Out won the $100,000 Tropical Park Handicap.

Trampoli covered 1 1/2 miles on turf in 2:28 in beating Putthepowdertoit by 2 1/2 lengths, with Adoryphar another 1 3/4 lengths back.

Trampoli paid $4.80, $3.20 and $2.40. Putthepowdertoit paid $4.20 and $3.60 and Adoryphar returned $4.80.

Take Me Out covered 1 1/8 miles on dirt in a slow 1:51 4/5 in beating Migrating Moon by 1 1/2 lengths. Take Me Out paid $8.40, $4 and $3.20. Migrating Moon returned $3.40 and $2.40 and Meena paid $5.
