PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Sonora Scores Twice in First Half to Beat No. 9 Orange

Paul Copeland and Chris Fernandez each scored in the first half to lead unranked Sonora to a 2-1 victory over ninth-ranked Orange Wednesday in a nonleague boys’ soccer game.

Eduardo Rodriguez scored for Orange (7-4-3). Sonora is 7-2-2.

In other nonleague games:

Canyon 4, Corona 1--Clay Kilbarger, Brent Nogle, Sasha Saneff and Eric Valent each scored for Canyon (10-3-1). Corona (9-2-1) was ranked eighth in the preseason Southern Section Division IV poll.

Dana Hills 5, Costa Mesa 0--Jorge Olamendi scored a career-high three goals and Micah Dennison scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season for the Dolphins (10-2-1). Unranked Dana Hills opens South Coast League play on Friday against fourth-ranked Mater Dei.

Orange Lutheran 4, Covina Western Christian 0--Ty Gavin scored two goals for Orange Lutheran (2-2-1).

Savanna 2, Artesia 1--Walter Altamirano and Daniel Moise each scored for Savanna (4-3-2).

Sunny Hills 4, Walnut 1--D.J. Buckley scored twice and had an assist in his second game back after recovering from a broken arm. Davis Lee also scored two goals for Sunny Hills (7-4-2).

Valencia 3, Fullerton 3--Gilberto Rivera tied the score on a breakaway with less than two minutes to play for Valencia (1-8-1). Aaron Olea scored twice for Fullerton (3-5-4).

Foothill 2, El Dorado 2--Steve Patterson and Lars Vreeland gave Foothill (4-4-4) an early 2-0 lead, but El Dorado’s Brian Hurley scored twice to tie the score. El Dorado is 5-3-4.

In Garden Grove League play:

Los Amigos 1, Rancho Alamitos 1--Frank Aceves scored after a corner kick midway through the second half for Los Amigos (3-6-1, 1-1-1).

Pacifica 2, Garden Grove 2--Mike Fernandez took a pass from Mike Jewett and scored with two minutes left to tie the score for Pacifica (2-4-1, 1-1-1). Robert Duncan had 15 saves for the Mariners.

Santiago 3, Kennedy 1--Danny Contreras had a goal and an assist for Santiago (5-3-1, 3-0).
