In other Sunset League games:
Fountain Valley 74, Westminster 50--Phil Domingo had a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Brandon Leimbach added 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Fountain Valley (9-3, 1-0) in the league opener. Todd Johnson scored 10 points for Westminster.
Ocean View 52, Marina 45--Mike Carney scored 17 for Ocean View (6-7, 1-0), Dan McDonald added 11 points and Kevin Johnson had 10 rebounds.
Servite 75, Santa Ana 42--Kristian Vallas scored 21 points and had five assists and seven rebounds for Servite (8-4, 1-0), which extended its winning streak to six games. David Downs added 17 points and seven rebounds for the Friars.
In Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:
Bolsa Grande 71, La Quinta 68--Tuan Pham scored 20 points and Brian Baughman added 19 points for Bolsa Grande (5-6, 1-0). Todd Snyder scored 17 points for La Quinta (6-6, 0-1).
Kennedy 73, Santiago 60--Kennedy (2-9, 1-0) won its 35th league game in a row as Rich Anderson had 29 points and 12 rebounds.
Los Amigos 61, Rancho Alamitos 44--Chris Yu scored 14 points for Los Amigos (5-7, 1-0). Manny Metcalf scored 15 points for host Rancho Alamitos (2-7, 0-1).
In Olympic League boys’ basketball:
Whittier Christian 59, Brethren Christian 47--Tyler Ream scored 28 points and had 13 rebounds for Whittier Christian (10-2, 1-0) in the league opener. Brethren Christian, the defending league champions, ended the third quarter down 42-40, but the Heralds’ defense didn’t allow a score until 1:56 remaining. Richard Mendoza scored 15 for Brethren Christian (8-5, 0-1).
In nonleague boys’ basketball:
Brea-Olinda 57, El Dorado 54--Matt Bodiford scored eight of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to give Brea-Olinda the victory. John Heredia led Brea-Olinda with 14 points. Justin Miller of El Dorado (5-7) led both teams with 19 points. Brea-Olinda is 4-12.
Canyon 68, Savanna 67--Ryan Walker scored the winning points with 11 seconds remaining with two free throws for Canyon (5-9). John Werhas added 20 points for the Comanches. Todd Wilson scored 19 points for Savanna (6-7).
Cypress 50, Buena Park 26--Chad Boberg scored 14 and Derek Mitchell added 12 for Cypress. Cypress (9-6) opens Empire League play on Friday at Los Alamitos.
Los Alamitos 57, Western 40--Second-ranked Los Alamitos (12-3) was held to two points in the first quarter but came back with 24 in the second to take a 26-15 halftime lead. Ryan Staniec led the Griffins with 22 points.
Sonora 69, Valencia 54--Chad Fister scored 21 points, including 3 three-pointers and Craig Clark added 15 points for Sonora (13-3). Max Zamora scored 19 points for Valencia (6-8).
