Pasadena police and the FBI say they believe both suspects still wanted in the fatal shootings of three teen-agers on Halloween night are hiding out in Pasadena.

The FBI trailed Herbert McClain, 22, through four states before nearly cornering him in Kansas City, Mo., said Charlie J. Parsons, special agent in charge of the Los Angeles FBI office.

Agents believe that McClain returned to Pasadena, his hometown. “He is not a mental giant, and people commonly return home,” Parsons said at a news conference.

The second suspect, Solomon Bowen, 22, is believed to have remained in hiding in Pasadena throughout the investigation, Pasadena Police Chief Jerry Oliver said.

McClain and Bowen are suspects in the ambush-style murders of Steven Coats and Reggie Crawford, both 14, and Edgar Evans, 13, as the youths walked home from a Halloween party Oct. 31.

Three other suspects--Lorenzo Newborn, 23; Aurelius Bailey, 19, and Karl Holmes, 19--were arrested by Pasadena police Dec. 23. The FBI joined the investigation Dec. 27, Oliver said.
