Guard Vernon Maxwell of the Houston Rockets, hospitalized for treatment of an irregular heartbeat, is out of the hospital but will have to sit out at least two games, the team said Saturday.

Maxwell left Methodist Hospital on Friday night, a day after he checked himself into the facility because of what the Rockets called an episode of atrial fibrillation.

Maxwell was given medication Friday and his heart rate returned to normal by the afternoon, according to team physicians. However, he sat out Saturday night’s game in Houston against Philadelphia and will not accompany the team to Orlando for Monday night’s game, the Rockets said.

Teammates said Maxwell had complained of a rapid heartbeat since he suffered a chest bruise Dec. 23 against Denver.
