GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Heads and Pulido Pace Newport Harbor Victory

Gina Heads had 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead No. 8 Newport Harbor to a 56-32 victory over Tustin in a Sea View League girls’ basketball game Monday at Newport Harbor.

Dianne Pulido added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Sailors (10-4, 3-0 in league), who led, 31-16, at halftime.

Katie Scheuerman had 16 points for Tustin (10-5, 2-1).

In other Sea View League games:

Woodbridge 61, University 43--Jamie Oenning scored 20 points for second-ranked Woodbridge (14-0, 3-0). Angela Burgess scored 15 and Melanie Pearson had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors. Mary Medina scored 18 for University (8-3, 2-1).

Irvine 67, Saddleback 48--Shawnee Stevens scored 20 points and Meaghan Woodruff added 14 points for Irvine (7-5, 1-2). Nicole Wiora had 32 points for Saddleback (4-7, 0-3).

Corona del Mar 48, Santa Margarita 33--Rosalie Kane scored 11 points and Lindsay Warmington nine for Corona del Mar (7-6, 1-2). Santa Margarita is 2-10, 0-3.

In Garden Grove League play:

Rancho Alamitos 72, Pacifica 35--Akilah Rodgers scored 41 points, breaking the Rancho Alamitos school record of 38 points set by Jenny Newsom in 1990. Rodgers made 16 of 19 shots from the field and had 12 rebounds. Janet Neuman added eight points and seven steals for the Vaqueros.

Pilar Surch scored 18 points, including a 65-foot shot at the end of the game, for Pacifica.

Kennedy 53, Garden Grove 44--Karin Kitagawa scored 27 points and had six assists and Heather Cunningham added 10 points and 15 rebounds for Kennedy (8-7, 3-0). Michol Murray had 17 points for Garden Grove (3-9, 1-2).

La Quinta 55, Los Amigos 23--Linda Rodriguez scored 22 points and Rhonda Gondringer added 10 points for La Quinta (9-4, 3-0). Stephanie Nguyen had 12 points for Los Amigos (0-12, 0-3).

Santiago 57, Bolsa Grande 44--Alejandra Torres had 12 points and Rayna Harrell and Cari Remmel each had 10 for host Santiago (4-9, 1-2), which outscored Bolsa Grande, 15-6, in the third quarter to take a 42-26 lead.
