GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE : Vlasic Leads Pacifica Past La Quinta

Chris Vlasic scored 37 points to help Pacifica rally in the second half for an 81-68 Garden Grove League boys’ basketball victory over La Quinta Friday.

The victory kept the Mariners alone in first place, but they had to work for it.

Pacifica (14-1, 5-0) ended Kennedy’s 37-game league winning streak Thursday, but found itself down, 38-29, at halftime against the Aztecs. But the Mariners, ranked fifth in Orange County, outscored La Quinta, 24-14, in the third quarter, then extended their lead.

Todd Snyder, Kevin Doane and Jason Gondringer each had 17 points for La Quinta (7-9, 1-4 in league).

In other league games:

Rancho Alamitos 58, Kennedy 50--Rancho Alamitos (4-9, 2-3) took a 30-22 halftime lead en route to its victory.

Bolsa Grande 51, Los Amigos 49--Los Amigos rallied from seven points down at halftime to lead by eight in the third quarter before losing to Bolsa Grande (8-7, 4-1).

Santiago 72, Garden Grove 68--Henry Johnson had 31 points and eight rebounds and Hector Palacios and Robert Wiemann each added 10 points to lead host Santiago (6-11, 1-4). Matt Pray scored 22 points for Garden Grove (6-10, 1-4).
