King Scores 20 as Fullerton Rallies to Win

Josh King scored a career-high 20 points, 18 of them in the second half, to rally Cal State Fullerton to a 74-70 victory over Nevada in a Big West Conference game Monday night.

Trailing 49-39 with 12 minutes remaining, Fullerton outscored the Wolf Pack, 13-2, with King scoring eight points and Darren Little contributing five to put the Titans up 52-51.

Nevada, 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the Big West, closed to 70-69 when Eathan O’Bryan, who scored 16 points, sank a three-pointer with 30 seconds left.

Greg Vernon scored on a breakaway and two free throws in the final 28 seconds to preserve the victory for Fullerton (3-10, 1-4).

The victory broke a four-game losing streak, and it was the first win of the year for the Titans over a Division 1 team.

Winston Peterson added 18 points for Fullerton.

Jimmy Moore and Walter Outlaw had 14 each for Nevada.

Nevada jumped to an early 19-11 lead in the first half, led by Moore with six points.

Chris St. Clair made a three-pointer and a field goal during an 11-point run to put the Titans in front 22-19 at the 8:25 mark.

But Fullerton could sink only one field goal in the final eight minutes and Nevada led at the intermission, 31-26.

Nevada’s Jerry Hogan made a three-pointer in the first half that gave him a school-record 138 for his career. The mark of 137 was set by Kevin Franklin, who played for the Wolf Pack from 1988 through ’90.
