VALLEY-AREA ROUNDUP : Ridley Scores 42 to Lead CLU (15-0)

Damon Ridley scored 42 points to lead undefeated Cal Lutheran to a 96-77 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday in an SCIAC game at Cal Lutheran.

Ridley, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, made 17 of 26 shots. His 42 points is a career high and tied him for sixth on the school’s all-time list for single-game scoring.

Rupert Sapwell and Paul Tapp each added 11 points for the Kingsmen (15-0, 4-0 in conference play).

In other men’s basketball games:

Antelope Valley 108, San Bernardino Valley 81--Forward Orville Turner scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Marauders to a Foothill Conference victory at Victor Valley.

Antelope Valley (13-9, 6-2 in conference play) took an 11-point lead at halftime as San Bernardino (10-11, 5-3) made only 28.3% of its shots. The Indians shot 35.3% in the game.

The Marauders made 11 of 20 three-point shots and shot 57.4% from the field overall.

Turner, a 6-foot-3 freshman, also pulled down seven rebounds and had six assists. He made 10 of 18 shots and 10 of 12 free throws. His teammate, guard Danny Prince, connected on six of his 10 three-point shots en route to 29 points. Forward Gary Boyce added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Freshman center Haji Dunn led San Bernardino with 27 points.

The Master’s 94, Bethany 62--The Mustangs broke to a 49-17 halftime lead and coasted to their seventh consecutive victory and 15th in 16 games in an NAIA Western Region game at Bethany.

The pressure defense of Master’s (18-3) limited Bethany to 13% shooting (four for 31) from the field in the first half.

James Mosley had 29 points for Master’s, 21 in the second half, and Doug Leaman added 18 points and Emeka Okenwa 14. Andy Thompson had 12 assists.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Antelope Valley 80, Citrus 77--Sophomore forward Margo Stanley scored 22 points and four teammates also reached double figures in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.

Freshman point guard Tonya Green added 19 points, freshman Shannon Nash 14, sophomore forward Vatrice Fletcher 13 and freshman guard Andrea Buckner 10 for the Marauders (7-10, 2-1).

Freshman center LaTaya Woods had 40 points and 19 rebounds for Citrus (8-7, 2-1).

Antelope Valley led 36-35 at halftime.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Nordhoff 61, Thacher 58--Senior guard Mark Sebek led the Rangers with 32 points and 10 rebounds in a nonleague game at Nordhoff (6-11). Ranger forward Archie Jackson added 14 points and seven rebounds.
