Servite Expects Coach to Stay

Scott Hamilton, Servite basketball coach, probably will be reinstated after serving a suspension for the rest of this season, Principal Raymond Dunne said Monday.

Hamilton, in his second year at Servite, was involved in an altercation with game officials Wednesday after the Friars’ 62-61 loss to Marina at Marina High.

Hamilton was suspended Friday and assistant Kevin Reynolds became acting coach, Dunne said.

“I feel I misrepresented the school and myself,” Hamilton said. “My actions should not be condoned by any means. I feel bad about the situation, and I wish I could take it back.”

Said Dunne: “Once the season is over, I fully expect him to continue with the program. I feel in this case a mistake was made, and Scott will learn from that experience.”

According to Athletic Director Tom Vitello, there will be no ramifications from the incident for the Servite basketball team.

“It’s a school matter and we handled it with the suspension,” Vitello said. “As far as the Southern Section is concerned, it’s a dead issue.”

Hamilton will continue to teach algebra at Servite.
