COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Concordia Beats Westmont to Move Into Tie for Third

Concordia moved into a tie for third place with an 82-81 victory over Westmont in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday in Santa Barbara.

Craig Martin had 24 points and Travis Rousell and Darren Lax each had 13 points for Concordia (14-8, 3-3). Lax made three of four three-point shots.

Mike Spears had 22 points for Westmont (12-7, 3-3).

In another Golden State Athletic Conference men’s game:

Southern California College 80, Point Loma 74--Danin Bryant scored 21 points as host Southern California College (11-11, 2-4) won its second consecutive conference game.

Eric Carmichael added 15 and Todd Anderson had 10 points and 10 rebounds for SCC.

In the California Coastal Conference:

Pacific Christian 128, Simpson 100--Charles Ross had 37 points and Eric Bajus had 20 for Pacific Christian (16-14, 7-1). Simpson is 9-12, 4-5.

In a Golden State Athletic Conference women’s game:

Southern California College 82, Point Loma 70--Carrie Elsaesser scored 21 points on nine-of-12 shooting from the field for host Southern California College (17-5, 3-2). Sanja Simidzija and Tina Demarsh each had 15 for SCC.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 5, Cal State Northridge 4--Antje Fritschi defeated Jennifer Cotone, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, and teamed with Janet Johnson to defeat Tracy Spellman and Gabriela Knizek at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-2, to lead the Anteaters (2-1).

In nonconference baseball:

Concordia 9, Occidental 3 (8 innings, darkness)--Trevor Earle gave up seven hits in eight innings in the season-opener for both teams at Concordia. Alex Vicario had two hits and scored two runs and Brandon Sparks had two hits and two RBIs for Concordia.
