COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Winning End to Good Season for Chapman

Chapman completed its most successful season in six years by rallying past Dominican, 78-71, in nonconference men’s basketball Saturday at Hutton Center.

The Panthers, in their first season without any players on athletic scholarship, finished 17-8, the most victories since they went 17-12 in 1988-89. The .680 winning percentage is the best since 1983-84, Walt Hazzard’s final season, when Chapman was 22-6 (.786).

Playing in front of a homecoming crowd of 1,237, the biggest of the season, the Panthers trailed by nine points, 60-51, with 11 minutes remaining. But less than four minutes later, they took a 64-63 lead when Stefan Mumaw took a pass from Brian Wood and slammed it through.
