COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Naster Sharp as Moorpark Wins Opener

Jeff Naster (3-0) scattered six hits and struck out seven to lead Moorpark College to a 5-2 victory over Santa Barbara in a Western State Conference baseball opener Tuesday at Moorpark.

Kent Cote had three hits and Kevin Nykoluk added a double and a home run for Moorpark (4-1).

Glendale 4, Santa Monica 1--Brian Warner broke a tie in the eighth inning with a two-run triple in a WSC opener at Santa Monica.

Cuesta 7, Oxnard 2--Adam Basua, Matt Anderson and Armando Macial each had two hits for the Condors (3-8), who came up short in a WSC opener.

Pierce 3, Canyons 1--Run-scoring singles in the sixth inning by Cesar Martinez and Brian Sturges broke a 1-1 tie in a WSC opener at Canyons.

Bakersfield 9, Valley 1--David Stevenson went three for three and has reached base in nine consecutive at-bats, but the Monarchs (2-8-1) lost a WSC opener at Bakersfield.

The Master’s 13, Cal Lutheran 3--Mark Vail drove in three runs with a triple and a double to lead the Mustangs (6-6-2) in a nonconference game at Newhall. Chris Fick homered for the Kingsmen.

Citrus 16, Antelope Valley 4--Citrus had 16 hits in a Foothill Conference opener at Glendora.

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 13-8, La Verne 3-5--The Regals (4-2, 4-0) had 33 hits in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. In the opener, Laree Reynolds hit two home runs and a double, and drove in seven runs.

Antelope Valley 3, Ventura 0--Heather Meyer fired a one-hitter and struck out nine for Antelope Valley in a nonconference game.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Northridge d. UC Irvine, 15-13, 15-12, 15-10--Oliver Heitmann and Jason Hughes each had 22 kills for visiting Northridge in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match. Collin Smith added 15 kills for the Matadors, who play host to No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA champion UCLA on Thursday night.
