Highlights

St. Margaret’s won a share of its second league title in three seasons. Outfielder Joey Powell and catcher Lupe Rodriguez, juniors, led St. Margaret’s and were selected first-team all-league. Rodriguez nailed 77% of baserunners during league play and led St. Margaret’s with 16 stolen bases. . . . Liberty Christian defeated Inglewood South Bay Lutheran, 16-6, and Santa Maria Valley Christian, 16-5, to earn a berth in the Southern Section Division VI quarterfinals. Liberty Christian was defeated in the quarterfinals, 5-0, by Temecula Linfield. Sophomore catcher Paul Malcom, a catalyst in Liberty Christian’s postseason run, was selected first-team all-league. Freshman third baseman Bryan Davis made several outstanding defensive plays for Liberty Christian in the playoffs. . . . Shortstop Roman De La Riva and third baseman/pitcher Orlando Sanchez showed promise as freshmen for St. Michael’s.

Highlights

Hamilton wrapped up the league championship at the season’s halfway point. Hamilton had a talented pitching staff, a swift outfield and many gifted hitters. . . . Southern California Christian advanced to the second round of the Southern Section Division VI playoffs, losing, 13-3, to Carpinteria Cate. Southern California Christian players Matt Caballero, Tim St. Clair and Michael Felten, juniors, were selected first-team all-league. Each made numerous clutch plays late in the regular season and during the playoffs.

Highlights

Led by junior catcher Eric Carreon, a first-team all-league selection, Heritage Christian dominated the league en route to an undefeated league season. Junior first baseman Steve Acheson and sophomore pitcher Scott Smith also made major contributions. Heritage Christian lost in the second round of the Southern Section Division VI playoffs to Burbank Providence, 5-0. . . . Claremont was competitive late in the season.

Highlights

Pacific Shores, Orange County’s lone representative in the Metro League, showed continued improvement in finishing fourth. Junior pitcher/first baseman Doug Chadwick developed into one of the league’s better players.

Highlights

The league’s top four teams qualified for the Southern Section Division V playoffs. . . . Orange Lutheran prevented perennial league-power Valley Christian from achieving its goal of an undefeated season in league play with its 6-3 victory on the final day of the regular season. . . . Orange Lutheran senior shortstop/pitcher Jeff Courvoisier was named the league’s MVP. . . . Whittier Christian split its season series with Orange Lutheran after being swept the previous season. Senior pitcher Ila Borders was selected first-team all-league and team MVP. Borders, a four-year varsity performer, finished her career with a record of 16-7. Her earned-run average was 2.37 and she had 165 strikeouts in 147 innings. Junior catcher Matt Alcala was selected first-team all-league. . . . Junior shortstop Kurt Aguilar made several big plays for Brethren Christian late in the season and was named first-team all-league. . . . Capistrano Valley Christian won five more games than it did the previous season, and senior first baseman David Lambert was named first-team all-league. . . . Sophomore catcher Chance King, who was selected second-team all-league, provided the lone bright spot for Calvary Chapel.
