COMMUNITY COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Golden West’s Season Ends in Loss at State

Golden West ended its season the same way it started--with a loss to Los Angeles Harbor.

But Saturday’s 83-70 loss came in the women’s State championship basketball game at Solano College in Suisun City.

LaTasha Burnett, the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds for Los Angeles Harbor (31-6).

JoAnn Williams scored 36 points, including six three-pointers, for Los Angeles Harbor, which led, 41-35, at the half.

Michelle Kravik had 14 points and Kristin Brun added 11 points and nine rebounds for Golden West, which was making its eighth consecutive State tournament appearance. The Rustlers won titles in 1990 and 1991.

Brun, a sophomore guard, led the Rustlers in rebounding in all three game. She and Julie Murdent were selected to the all-tournament team. Murdent, who had 13 points, was the second-leading scorer in the tournament with 61 points.

Golden West, the Orange Empire Conference champion, ends its season 33-5. The Rustlers lost to L.A. Harbor, 68-65, Nov. 12 in the season opener for both teams.
