OUTLOOK

The Rebels slipped somewhat after a good season in 1992. Savanna won 10 of its final 13 games that year and made a strong run in the postseason. Mitchell believes the Rebels will enjoy success again. Savanna, however, will need some help--and luck--if things are to fall in place this season. “I think Brea-Olinda and Valencia are the teams to beat this year,” Mitchell said. “They’re each bringing back some pretty strong people, but we might be able to do some things, too, because we will have a pretty good defensive club.” Delgadillo is one of the defensive leaders. He has an exceptionally strong arm; opponents do not test him often. Larsen has a good arm and instincts to match. Francis and Vasquez will track down most balls, and Mitchell is expecting a major contribution from Nava. On the pitching front, Monzon and Manley are being counted on to provide many quality innings. “They have live arms,” Mitchell said. Now for the bad news: “I’m not sure where our offense will come from,” Mitchell said. “I’m optimistic because we look good in practice, but we don’t have a lot of experienced hitters. Scoring runs could be a problems for us.”
