Police are asking the public for help in the search for three alleged gang members believed to have been involved in an October, 1992, shooting that left a 19-year-old Orange man paralyzed from the neck down.

Police said they have few leads to the whereabouts of Anibal Geovany Hernandez, Juan Molinero Zaldivar or the third suspect, a juvenile whose name was not released. However, police believe the suspects may still be in Orange County, Detective Jack Nanigian said Tuesday.

The three are suspects in the shooting of Robert James Thomson, who was wounded during an apparent gang skirmish behind a gas station at 883 N. Tustin Ave. Witnesses identified the men as the assailants, Nanigian said.

Hernandez, 18, known by the street name Camel, is Latino, about 5 feet 5 and 110 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. Zaldivar, 20, known by the street name Igor, is Latino, about 5 feet 3 and 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The juvenile suspect, known on the street as Tiny, was described as a 16-year-old Latino, about 4 feet 11 and 90 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.

The shooting, which occurred at a busy gas station, was thought to be in reprisal for a bike theft that prompted a confrontation between two rival gangs, Nanigian said.

The suspects are believed to be with fellow gang members in Santa Ana, although it is possible they have fled the country. Any person with information about the crime or the whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call Nanigian at (714) 744-7309. All tips are confidential.
