SAN CLEMENTE : Low-Flush Commode Special Ends Soon
The deadline for residents to purchase special water-saving toilets at a reduced price is March 19.
The Ultra Low Flush brand toilets, which can save several gallons of water per day, are made available for $40 through a program sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District. The toilets normally retail for $100, say city water officials.
Ultra Low Flush toilets use about 1.6 gallons per flush compared to the average toilet water consumption of 3.5 to 11 gallons per flush.
Participants in the program must be water utility customers and are required to turn in their old toilets on April 2 at the city water treatment plant. More than one toilet can be bought, but each must be installed in San Clemente and replace an old toilet.
