Gildea and Hughey are two reasons Barrett says the Seahawks can crack into the top three in the league. Gildea finished the regular season with an 8-1 record and a 1.44 earned-run average, then won two playoff games to help the Seahawks advance to the quarterfinals. Hughey batted fifth last season and is regarded as one of the best shortstops in the county. “I think we’ll be the best defensive team in the league,” Barrett said. Churchill (.360) and Foreman (.320) return to provide good gloves on the infield. Delachica, who started eight games in the outfield as a freshman, and sophomore pitcher Carr are two young players Barrett hopes will contribute immediately. “Cory Carr’s going to win a lot of games for us,” Barrett said. That is, if the Seahawks can generate enough offense. Ocean View averaged five hits in its first three games.
