PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Wilson’s Pitching, Hitting Lead Los Alamitos Past Pacifica

Debbie Wilson drove in a run with a single down the third-base line in the 10th inning to give Los Alamitos a 3-2 victory over Pacifica in a nonleague softball game Tuesday at Los Alamitos.

Wilson (6-0) also pitched a five-hitter, striking out eight, for the Griffins (9-0).

Pacifica (4-2) scored in the first inning on an error. Toni Mascarenas reached first on a fielder’s choice, stole second and came home when Natasha Sisco’s grounder bounced away from shortstop Michelle Schneider.

Los Alamitos answered in the bottom of the inning. Amanda Peterson walked, was sacrificed to second, took third on a wild pitch and scored when Carolyn Wilson, Debbie’s sister, singled under shortstop Autumn Gwinner’s glove. The Griffins scored again in the third, when Peterson singled, was sacrificed to second and scored when Schneider singled to right.

Pacifica tied the score in the fourth, but Coach Rob Weil thought his Mariners should have gotten more.

After Andrea Pickett doubled to center, Kristina Carlson grounded to short, and was called out at first.

Weil disputed the call with umpire Rudy Kominek, saying first baseman Megan Barnes’ foot was off the bag.

Kominek ejected Weil from the field, but Weil continued to coach from the dugout. Pickett then scored on Kristin Freed’s line-drive single.

Each team had a chance to score before extra innings. Pacifica loaded the bases with two out in the fifth; Los Alamitos had runners on second and third with no outs in the sixth.

In the top of the 10th, Natasha Sisco tripled with two outs, but Pickett grounded to short. First baseman Barnes made the scoop of a low throw to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Schneider reached first on an error by shortstop Gwinner. Carolyn Wilson singled to advance Schneider to second and Debbie Wilson hit a grounder down the third-base line to end the game.

“This is the toughest game we’ve had,” Los Alamitos Coach Jami Shannon said. “But our Nos. 1-6 are batting .300 or better--a lot better offensive performance than we’ve had in the past.

“It’s a very intense team. I’m glad they’re on my side.”

In the quarterfinals of the Laguna Hills softball tournament:

Woodbridge 5, Fountain Valley 1--Michelle Hague had a triple and drove in three runs and Ashley Boone had a three hits, including a triple, for Woodbridge (5-2), which advances to play Marina in one semifinal at 7 p.m. tonight.

Marina 4, Saugus 1--Heather Williams had a triple and an RBI for Marina (3-0). It was the first loss for Saugus (11-1).

Irvine 4, Laguna Hills 3--Natalie Tomoguchi had a home run in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie for Irvine (2-2), which advances to a 7 p.m. semifinal against Ocean View.

Ocean View 2, Foothill 1--Kathy Ponce (6-1) pitched a three-hitter for Ocean View (6-1).

In other nonleague softball:

Westminster 8, Santa Ana Valley 2--Brenda Quinn had 10 strikeouts in her first victory of the season for Westminster (2-5). Claudia Ramirez had one hit, scored once and drove in one run for Santa Ana Valley.

Aliso Niguel 22, Laguna Beach 12--Kirsten Roy had four hits, including two doubles and a home run, scored three runs and drove in four and Candice Heath collected five hits, including a double and a triple, scored four runs and drove in four for Aliso Niguel (3-4).

Sonora 3, Whittier Christian 1--Jackie Anderson started the fifth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michelle Rodridguez to give host Sonora (4-5) a 3-1 lead. Tiffany Kind had a squeeze bunt for a run in the fourth. Kind (3-2) also pitched a six-hitter for the victory.

El Dorado 5, La Habra 0--Heather Hamer threw a no-hitter for El Dorado (8-1). Hamer, faced the minimum 21 batters. A fifth-inning error cost her a perfect game but the runner was later doubled up.

Downey Pius X 2, Rosary 0--Anna Villalpando broke up the no-hitter with a single in the fifth inning for Rosary (1-1).

Esperanza 5, Fullerton 1--Wendy Harrison’s three-run triple keyed a five-run second inning for visiting Esperanza (4-2).

Buena Park 1, Santiago 0--Brandi Tatman’s second-inning single drove in Angela Boles, who had tripled, with the game’s only run for Buena Park (4-3).

Valencia 2, Troy 1--Allison Fritz struck out 12, including the first seven, en route to a one-hitter for Valencia (3-3).

Kennedy 8-3, Cypress 0-4 (second game 9)--Julie Adams’ run-scoring single in the top of the ninth drove in Christa Saindon with the winning run for Cypress (5-1) in the second game. Lisa Pitt pitched a three-hitter and had two hits in the first game for Kennedy (4-2).

Brethren Christian 3, Covina Western Christian 2--Brooke Hofstetter threw a one-hitter, striking out 13 for Brethren Christian (6-1).

St. Margaret’s 13, Capistrano Valley Christian 1 (5 mercy)--Monica Arreola allowed one run in five innings and Gina Arreola drove in two runs to lead host St. Margaret’s (3-1).

In the Express league:

Heritage Christian 20, Bethel Baptist 4 (5, mercy)--Alisia Kean had three hits, scored four runs, drove in two and stole three bases for Heritage Christian (2-1, 1-0).
