COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fielding Error, Armbruster’s Pitching Lift Orange Coast

Karie Davies reached base on a bunt-single and later scored on catcher Liz Jones’ error in the eighth inning to give Orange Coast a 1-0 victory over Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday at Orange Coast College.

Pirate pitcher Kelsi Armbruster pitched a one-hitter to pick up her 11th victory of the season. The victory moves the Pirates (15-8-2, 6-2 in conference) into second place.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Fullerton 1, Cypress 0--Jen Sentano singled in Lisa Valdez with the winning run for Fullerton (15-8, 8-0). It was the seventh consecutive shutout for Fullerton. Cypress is 22-10, 3-5.

Rancho Santiago 3, Irvine Valley 0--Christina Mazurie pitched a three-hitter to lead Rancho Santiago (14-11, 5-3).

Saddleback 1, Golden West 0--Lucy Jacobs’ third-inning single scored Dannette Morris with the game’s only run. Laura Kesterson pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts for the visiting Gauchos (14-9, 4-4). Golden West (4-15, 0-7) stranded eight runners.

In Orange Empire golf:

Saddleback 371, Rancho Santiago 398, Cypress 408, Riverside 438--Freshman Aki Amaya shot one-over-par 73 at Cypress Golf Club for Saddleback (12-1), which leads second-place Palomar by three matches halfway through the conference season.

In nonconference men’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Pasadena City 1--Andy Kijewski had 20 kills, Brian Gordon had eight blocks and Nathan Larsen had 48 assists to lead Golden West (4-5) to a 6-15, 15-2, 15-8, 15-10 victory.

Orange Coast 3, Santa Barbara 0--Tom Green had eight kills for Orange Coast (9-1), which won 15-9, 15-7, 15-5.
