Four people were killed and two were injured early Saturday when a speeding sports car went out of control in Westwood and collided with a pickup truck, authorities said.

Los Angeles police said a young man was driving a black 1994 Acura Integra at more than 80 m.p.h. when his car veered from the eastbound lane of Sunset Boulevard into the westbound lane near Groverton Place about midnight. A man and two women were passengers in the car.

All four died instantly when the Acura slammed into a red Toyota pickup truck near UCLA, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said. The names of the dead were withheld pending notification of relatives, the county coroner’s office said.

The driver and the passenger in the pickup truck, both women in their 40s, were taken to UCLA Medical Center, where one was listed in critical condition with head injuries and the other was in fair condition, a hospital official said. Their names were not released.

Authorities said traffic on Sunset Boulevard was routed through the UCLA campus for seven hours during the accident investigation.

Alcohol did not play a role in the accident, police said.
