COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Brasher Helps Saddleback Beat Rancho Santiago

Wes Brasher had three hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in two to help Saddleback to a 10-6 victory over Rancho Santiago in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Saddleback.

Saddleback (17-9-1, 8-6 in conference) scored five runs in the second inning when its first seven batters reached base. Rich Kleckner, Brasher and Lorne Rosas had RBI singles, Jerry Apana was hit with the bases loaded and Pat Antrim had a sacrifice fly in the inning.

David Biddinger had two hits and scored two runs for the Gauchos, who led, 9-0, after five innings.

Four doubles helped Rancho Santiago score five runs in the sixth. Toby Sanchez drove in two runs in the inning with a double. Corey Doll had three hits for Rancho Santiago (24-7, 7-5).

In other conference games:

Cypress 12, Orange Coast 2--Israel Gonzalez and Ken Granger had home runs for Cypress, which remains tied with Riverside for first place. Josh Kliner had two hits and two RBIs for Cypress (9-3, 23-8). Chris Yakura hit his first home run of the season for Orange Coast (1-13, 6-20).

Riverside 5, Fullerton 4 (10)--Brent Coon Ryan Wilson and Jon Gardikis each had two hits for host Fullerton (15-13-1, 6-8), which lost to Riverside for the second consecutive time in extra innings.

In nonconference baseball:

Golden West 10, East Los Angeles 4--Phil Ruhl had three hits, including a double, triple and two RBIs for Golden West (12-13). Robert Prince had two triples and scored two runs for Golden West. Josh LaRocca (2-2) pitched eight innings, giving up four runs on five hits for Golden West.

In Orange Empire Conference golf:

Orange Coast 401, Cuyamaca 408, Riverside 423, Golden West 487--Brad Miller shot a six-over 77 and Sean Boulton shot 79 at Mesa Verde for Orange Coast (13-9). Luis Romero was the top finisher for Golden West with an 86.
