Youth Slain in Venice Gang Shooting

Share

An 18-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday outside a party at a Venice housing project, in what Los Angeles police are calling a gang-related shooting.

Police said a gunman drove past the Marionwood public housing complex about 3 a.m. and fired several shots at Manuel Hernandez as the teen-ager tried to run for cover.

Hernandez, who lived in the housing project and had been attending the party, was hit in the upper and lower body. He was pronounced dead at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, police said.

Police said Sunday that they had no information about the shooting from witnesses. “Everyone knows (Hernandez), but no one is talking,” Detective Cedric Wilder said.

Police said the shooting was gang-related but do not know what gang Hernandez belonged too.
