COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Are Back on Track With Baseball Victory

Mark Kotsay had two doubles and drove in two runs and scored three as Cal State Fullerton beat Loyola Marymount, 7-5, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Fullerton.

The victory ended Fullerton’s two-game losing streak. The Titans (28-8) are ranked fourth in the nation by Baseball America.

Jeff Ferguson and Bret Hemphill each had two hits and drove in two runs for Fullerton, which scored three runs in the first inning. Each had a double. Dante Powell had two hits, scored two runs and stole two bases. He has 29 steals this season after having 42 as a sophomore last season.

Chad Rolish (6-3) pitched four shutout innings for the victory. Anthony Napolitano had two home runs and drove in four runs for Loyola Marymount (17-23).

In another nonconference baseball game:

San Diego 9, Chapman 0--Chapman pitcher James Thomas gave up one hit and no runs through four innings before San Diego broke through with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Thomas (2-7) allowed five runs on seven hits, with four walks and three strikeouts, in six innings for the host Panthers (10-21-1). Donny Disbro had two hits, including a double, for Chapman. San Diego is 18-18-1.

In Golden State Athletic Conference softball:

Southern California College 1-9, Concordia 0-0--On the day, Shannon Moreno had three hits, a run scored and three RBIs for Southern California (31-7, 9-2). Tracy Scofield had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. In the first game, Shannon Saylor recorded her ninth shutout of season, striking out five, and Beth Howard pitched her 10th shutout in the second game.
