VAN NUYS : 19 Groups Honored for Quake Response

Nineteen organizations and government agencies that responded to the Northridge temblor “beyond the call of duty” will be honored at a luncheon today by the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley and the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn.

The honorees are the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, The Gas Co., the Southern California Regional Rail Authority, Caltrans, GTE, PacTel, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Metropolitan Water District, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the Los Angeles City Fire Department, the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, and the Los Angeles Department of Public Works.

The luncheon will be held at Airtel Plaza Hotel, 7277 Valjean St., in Van Nuys. Cost is $25 per person. Blenda J. Wilson, president of Cal State Northridge, will emcee the event, which is open to the public, and present plaques to representatives of the honored organizations and agencies.
