Ventura Stock Cars Rained Out

Friday night’s stock car competition at Ventura Raceway was canceled because of heavy rain.

A recording on the raceway’s main telephone line said that tonight’s SCRA sprint car program will proceed as scheduled with the gates opening at 4 p.m. and a 7 p.m. start for racing.

Track officials also advised callers to check with the pit office at 805-648-7223 after noon for further updates, because of the threat of more storms.

College Football

Cal State Northridge announced Friday its team captains for the 1994 football season, selecting four seniors, two from the offensive unit and two from the defense.

The four Matador captains will be quarterback J.J. O’Laughlin, offensive lineman Edvin Babajova, cornerback Vincent Johnson and linebacker Tony Simon.

Miscellany

The Ventura County Sheriffs will play against the Ventura County Fire Dept. in a basketball game to raise money for the construction of a local gymnasium, designed to cut down on youth crime in Oxnard.

The game will be played at Rio Mesa High at 7 p.m. May 14.

Ticket prices are $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and students. Children under 12 are free.
