Capistrano Valley Wins 4th Straight Gymnastics Title

Capistrano Valley won its fourth consecutive section title, edging host Los Angeles Marlborough, 176.6 to 175.95, Saturday at the Southern Section team gymnastics championships.

Individual highlights for Capistrano Valley included Erin Powell’s performance on the balance beam. She scored a school-record 9.7. Krista Dalton scored 9.35 in the floor exercise.

Brea-Olinda’s Erica Castillo had a 9.3 on the balance beam, and a 9.3 in the floor exercise. Brea-Olinda finished fourth, with 166.75.

The section individual finals will be Saturday at Brea-Olinda.
