DIVISION I SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS

In other Division I games:

Cerritos 1, Ocean View 0 (14)--Cerritos (18-6) scored in the bottom of the 14th with a leadoff walk, an error by the shortstop and a bunt to load the bases. The Dons then got the winning run across on a ground ball to second. Tracy Wilkinson, catching for the first time in three years because of the Senior Prom and injuries to backup players, effectively handled Kathy Ponce and had three of Ocean View’s four hits. Ponce had 12 strikeouts and two walks. Ocean View finishes 17-7.

Cypress 3, Villa Park 2--Kim Lumsdaine’s single in the fifth drove in Amanda Brancher with the winning run for host Cypress (17-5). Cypress scored two runs in the first on triples by Christa Saindon and Julie Adams, and a sacrifice fly by Amanda Adams. Cypress will play Pacifica.

El Toro 8, El Modena 0--El Toro used nine walks, two hit batters and two double steals to win. Mindy Cook had one hit, two RBIs and scored two runs for the Chargers. Kelli Bruce added one hit and drove in two runs. El Modena finishes 10-14. El Toro (22-8) will play Fountain Valley.

Fountain Valley 4, El Dorado 3--Molly Sinclair’s seventh-inning, one-out single drove in Lindsey Collins with the game-winning run for the host Barons (16-8-1). Collins had doubled and reached third on a passed ball. Lynea Backlund (2-0) pitched 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief to get the victory.

Garden Grove 5, Mater Dei 4--Wendy Griffin had two hits and scored a run for Garden Grove (18-11), which withstood a three-run Mater Dei rally in the sixth. The Argonauts will play Marina.

Marina 4, Orange 0--Marcy Crouch pitched a six-hitter, striking out eight. Becky Thompson had two hits and scored one run, and Faith Fuata had two hits and two RBIs for top-seeded Marina (22-2). Marina plays at Garden Grove on Tuesday.

Irvine 5, Costa Mesa 0--Amy Young (17-6) pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven, and Shye Nakabayashi had two hits and scored a run for host Irvine (18-9).

Los Alamitos 9, La Quinta 0--Los Alamitos’ Debbie Wilson and Sheri Bergeron combined on a three-hitter. Los Alamitos (22-4) was led offensively by Amanda Peterson, who had two hits and one RBI, and Jennifer Slaney, who had three RBIs. La Quinta finishes 16-10.

Pacifica 5, Capistrano Valley 0--Andrea Pickett’s third-inning triple drove in two to lead fourth-seeded Pacifica (19-5-1). Shelly Dunn squeezed home Melissa Bunim for another run, and Autumn Gwinner was two for three. Pacifica will play Cypress.

Kennedy 3, San Clemente 1--Lisa Pitt pitched a two-hitter, struck out nine and walked two to lead Kennedy (21-5-1). Kristy Hensel had an RBI in Kennedy’s three-run second inning. Kennedy plays Foothill on Tuesday.
