DIVISION II SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS : Fullerton Beats Savanna in Ninth Inning

Annette Martinez drove in Amy Simpson with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday to give Fullerton a 1-0 victory over visiting Savanna in the first round of the Division II softball playoffs.

Angie Fancuberta pitched a four-hitter for the Indians (15-12), striking out 12.

Savanna finished 11-11.

Fullerton, the Freeway League champion,advances to play fourth-seeded Lakewood.

In other Division II games:

La Puente Bishop Amat 1, Troy 0--Two errors and an RBI single by Rhonda Luna scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth for third-seeded Bishop Amat (19-4). Troy (9-14) committed four errors.

La Mirada 5, Sunny Hills 2--Jennifer Van Dyk pitched in her first game for Sunny Hills (13-12), replacing Jennifer Dean, who has bronchitis. Dean had pitched in every game this season.

Van Dyk gave up seven hits and five runs for Sunny Hills.

Lakewood St. Joseph 5, Western 1--Lisa Serrano had two hits and one RBI and Kelly Humphries had two hits for Western (16-11).

Stacy Humphries pitched a complete game for Western, giving up 11 hits.
