HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Notre Dame Wins in a Walk With Run in 10th

Jabbar Craigwell walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Notre Dame High a 3-2 victory over Diamond Bar in a Southern Section Division I first-round playoff game Friday.

Rich Igou (10-2) went the distance for the Knights (19-5), scattering eight hits and walking none while striking out 10.

Notre Dame trailed, 2-1, with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but Chris Crowley’s double drove in Ryan Benner. Jon Lichterman and Eddie Romero each had two hits for the Knights.

Newbury Park 4, Hoover 0--Senior right-hander Ray Clinton set a school record in notching his 10th victory, a three-hitter, for host Newbury Park (19-7).

Kes Anderson was two for three with a run and an RBI.

DIVISION II

Hart 12, Culver City 2--Aron Miyata went two for four with four RBIs, including a three-run double in the fourth inning, for host Hart (20-5).

Eric Spindt gave the Indians a rocky start, giving up a run on one hit and two walks in the first inning before yielding to Bobby Graves (2-0), who struck out four and walked three in 4 1/3 innings of no-hit, no-run relief.

Buena 5, Lompoc 3--Emilio Flores and Jason Kimble had back-to back singles in the sixth inning to drive in James Melcher and Trevor Jackson with the winning runs for visiting Buena (15-9).

Melcher (5-1) struck out five in relief of Danny Rodriguez to earn the victory. Rodriguez recorded eight strikeouts in four innings.

DIVISION III

Antelope Valley 12, Torrance 5--Host Antelope Valley overcame a 5-0 deficit. Torrance scored five times in the first inning against Jeremy Holiday, who settled down and went 6 1/3 innings for his eighth victory.

Chris Tapia had three hits and three RBIs and Glenn Blair added three RBIs for Antelope Valley (13-9).

Palmdale 5, El Segundo 1--David Glick (11-2) pitched a three-hitter and matched his season high of 16 strikeouts for visiting Palmdale.

Chris Paxton had two hits and three runs batted in, and Tim Guzman added a two-run home run in the fifth for the Falcons (19-6).

DIVISION IV

Atascadero 5, Santa Paula 2--A muffed ground ball with two out and a runner on third in the fifth inning led to three unearned runs for host Atascadero (15-3), wasting a strong effort by Santa Paula starter Hector Torres.

Torres gave up one earned run in 4 2/3 innings, striking out five and allowing five hits. Joseph Jauregi went two for three, adding to his school record for hits in a season (38).

Montclair Prep 4, La Salle 1--Jarred Sandler pitched a complete game, scattering five hits as the Mounties won at La Salle. Sandler (11-1) struck out eight and walked one.

Eli Reichline had two hits for the Mounties.

Calabasas 4, St. Joseph (Santa Maria) 3--Mike Melucci’s single drove in Clayton Coleman with one out in the bottom of the eighth after Billy Hoover tied it with two out in the seventh.

Josh Morton (9-1) struck out six in 4 2/3 innings of relief. Tanner Trosper went three for three.

DIVISION V

Oak Park 7, Templeton 3--Junior right-hander Todd Schultz (6-1) allowed one hit through five innings, striking out six for the Eagles (14-5-1) at Oak Park.

Brent Schneider drove in a pair with two singles and Eric Ruhle put the game out of reach with a two-run single in the sixth.

St. Bonaventure 3, Mission Prep 2--St. Bonaventure turned two key double plays early in the game to stop Mission Prep scoring threats, then rallied to win. Danny Harrison tripled home Jake Brown in the fifth inning as St Bonaventure scored three runs to take the lead.

Paraclete 9, Beaumont 8--Dennis Winchell had four hits, including the game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh, to lead the Spirits (12-11). Winchell had three doubles and a homer.

DIVISION VI

Grace Brethren 2, Shandon 1--Cliff McIntosh and Jarrod Foote combined on a one-hitter for the Lancers (15-5).

Cornerstone Christian 22, North County Christian 7--Josh Howe had five hits, including two doubles, drove in five runs and scored three times for host Cornerstone Christian (19-1).

Tyler Rizer added three hits, including a triple.

Calvary Chapel 7, Viewpoint 4--Matt Ness went two for three with two stolen bases and Peter Chizever drove in two runs for Viewpoint.
