Event: 200 Freestyle Relay
School: Mission Viejo
They were able to hold off Villa Park to finish first in the Division I final, winning in 1:26.08 and helping the Diablos take the division title.

Event: 400 Freestyle Relay
School: Woodbridge
It was in this Division I final race that Buyukuncu broke Mission Viejo Eric Diehl’s 1991 section record with a lead-off swim of 43.85.

Event: 200 Medley Relay
School: Woodbridge
One of two Woodbridge relay teams to win a Division I title, it finished in 1:35.90, nearly two seconds ahead of second-place Mission Viejo.
Name: DERYA BUYUKUNCU
Event: 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke
School/Year: Woodbridge, Sr.
Broke three records at Division I finals, including his national mark in the 100 backstroke. His 50 free time of 20.27 was .16 seconds shy of the national record.
Name: BART SIKORA
Event: 100 Butterfly, 500 Freestyle
School/Year: Mission Viejo, Sr.
He quietly did his job for the Diablos in the Division I finals, winning the fly in 50.11 and the free in 4.27.70. He swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team.
Name: TIM HANEY
Event: 200 Individual Medley
School/Year: Los Alamitos, So.
Haney’s time of 1:50.36 in the Division III finals was faster than those posted by Buyukuncu and Sikora, who until then had the county’s fastest times this season.
Name: JASON LEZAK
Event: 100 Freestyle
School/Year: Irvine, Sr.
After taking second in the 50 free in the Division I finals, he came back in the 100 free with a personal-best time of 45.68 seconds to defeat the defending champion.
Name: MATT CORNUE
Event: 200 Freestyle
School/Year: Villa Park, Sr.
Although Harvard-bound Cornue’s time was slower than his time last year in the Division I finals, he managed to swim a 1:40.46 to edge Woodbridge’s Dawson Hughes.
Name: DAVID KATZ
Event: 100 Breaststroke
School/Year: Foothill, Jr.
Though he finished second in the Division I finals to Steve Messner of Redlands, his 58.62 in the 100 breaststroke was the county’s top time in any division final.
Name: TYCE ROUTSON
Event: Diving
School/Year: El Toro, Sr.
Routson, who will compete for Miami next year, finished his final prep season in style by scoring 604.95 in the finals to set a Southern Section Division I record.

Name: Jason Lezak
Event: 50 Freestyle
School/Year: Irvine, Sr.

Time: 20.87. In another time or place, he probably would have been top gun in the 50 free.
Name: Matt Cornue
Event: 100 Freestyle
School/Year: Villa Park, Sr.
Time: 46.18. A flip-flop of last year, when he won the 100 and came in second in the 200.

Event: 200 Freestyle
School/Year: Woodbridge, Jr.
Time: 1:40.58. Battled Cornue for first place, finishing about a tenth of a second behind.

Event: 500 Freestyle

Time: 4:29.34. The surprising sophomore will undoubtedly be the one to beat in ’95.

Event: 100 Backstroke
School/Year: Marina, Jr.
Time: 51.47. In a race that was really for second, he proved he was county’s second best.

Event: 100 Breaststroke

Time: 58.55. Had county’s fastest time in prelims, but was disappointing in the finals.

Time: 50.41. With Buyukuncu and Sikora graduating, he could be county’s kingpin in ’95.

Score: 547.90. He took Division III title by more than 100 points ahead of the runner-up.
