Police continued investigations Wednesday into two separate fatal shootings on the Westside this week.

Corey Payton, 24, was killed in an alley in Cheviot Hills about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the South-Central resident was last seen talking to friends in the 6000 block of Sawyer Avenue moments before being shot.

“Local residents heard gunshots and ran out to find Mr. Payton lying in the alley,” said Los Angeles Police Detective Frank Bolan. Payton was taken to Kaiser-West Los Angeles Hospital, where he died about 11 p.m. from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting.

At 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Michael Anthony Tucker was slain at Smiley Avenue and Hauser Boulevard in West Los Angeles, police said.

Tucker had argued briefly with two men, one of whom pulled a handgun and shot him several times in the head and chest, killing him instantly, said Bernard Rogers, an LAPD detective.
