Improved on a fine freshman season by reaching the Ojai interscholastic finals before losing to top-seeded Santa Barbara’s Nathan Jackmon in three sets. Abrams advanced to the section singles semifinals before losing to Pietrowski, 6-1, 6-3.

School/Yr.: Sunny Hills, So.

Helped lead Sunny Hills to the Division II team title by going undefeated in five playoff matches, won the Ojai boys’ 16 singles title, and reached the section singles quarterfinals before losing to Santa Barbara’s Nathan Jackmon, 7-5, 6-0.

Event: Singles

School/Yr.: Ocean View, Sr.

Capped off a spectacular high school career by going undefeated in dual matches and then winning the Southern Section individual singles title without dropping a set during the tournament. He beat Temple City’s Sandy Gentile in the finals.

Event: Doubles

School: Corona del Mar

The pair won the Sea View League doubles title and reached the section individual semifinals before losing to Roditi and Shoemaker. Weinstein was a first-team Times all-county doubles selection last year with Beat Baudenbacher.

Names: JEFF SHOEMAKER (Jr.) & DANIEL RODITI (Sr.)

Event: Doubles

School: San Clemente

Roditi and Shoemaker were injured and didn’t play at Ojai, but they recovered in time for the section individuals, where they upset second-seeded Jon Chang and Shep Smith of Carpenteria Cate in the round of 16 before losing in the finals.

Names: ROBBIE WILKINS (Sr.) & JASON MEYERS (Sr.)

Event: Doubles

School: University

Wilkins and Meyers finished their high school careers on a high note by upsetting top-seeded Ian Carrera and Jimmy Walker of Santa Barbara, 6-2, 6-2, in the section quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Corona in the semifinals.

Event: Singles Name: Brett Hankey School: Mater Dei Year: So. Went 33-3 in dual matches, won South Coast League singles title, reached section quarterfinals.

Event: Singles Name: Ryan Hollis School: Villa Park Year: Jr. Went 66-4 in dual matches, named Century League MVP, reached section singles round of 16.

Event: Singles Name: Ryan Thompson School: Foothill Year: Jr. Went 12-0 in dual singles play, reached section quarterfinals before losing to Pietrowski.

Event: Doubles Name: Jerry Liao Heath Kula School: Canyon Year: So. Sr. Have gone 70-9 over past two seasons, reached 4th round of section doubles this season.

Event: Doubles Name: Bryan Johnson Nolan Cooper School: Trabuco Hills Year: Sr. Jr. Lost heartbreaker, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, to eventual-champions from Corona in section round of 16.
