A 22-year-old man sitting in a parked car was shot to death Thursday night after exchanging words with two males who confronted him in the 3600 block of Hazard Avenue, police said Friday.

Jorge Hugo Garcia of Anaheim was shot several times in the upper and lower body with a handgun. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center, said Sgt. Dick Faust.

Garcia was approached by two males in a light-colored vehicle, Faust said. “They got out of the car and confronted the victim. Words were exchanged and the victim was shot.”

The gunmen were last seen driving away westbound on Hazard Avenue, Faust said.

Lt. Robert Helton said the shooting appears to be gang-related. He said the victim, who is a former resident of Santa Ana, is a known gang member.

“There is gang activity in the area where the shooting occurred,” Helton said. “Although we have not had any shootings on Hazard Avenue that I can recall, we have had shootings in that general area.”

It is not clear what the victim was doing on the street, police said.
