SIMI VALLEY : Post-Quake Soil Study Available

Share

Simi Valley residents concerned about soil settling from the Jan. 17 earthquake can now obtain a free copy of a study on soil stability in the city.

The study, completed last month by the state geologist, gauges the stability of soil on the eastern end of Simi Valley that shifted after the quake, causing severe damage to residences and streets.

Housing on the eastern end of the city that was built on landfill sank and shifted after the quake, according to the report, which said the area has stabilized sufficiently for repairs and rebuilding to begin.

The report includes maps of city regions most likely to be hit hard in earthquakes, and recommends that extensive studies be conducted before new developments are built.

Copies of the report are available at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
