Coto de Caza’s Booth Leads Oklahoma Junior Golf Event

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza shot two-over-par 72 Thursday to take the lead after three rounds of the American Junior Golf Assn.’s Tournament of Champions at the 6,014-yard Oak Tree Country Club course in Edmond, Okla.

Booth, whose three-day total is 220, is a stroke ahead of Beth Bauer, from Brandon, Fla. Santa Ana’s Alicia Allison and Heather Graff of Kennewick, Wash., are third at 224.

In the boys’ division, Fullerton’s Terry Noe shot 73 for a three-day total of 221, 16 shots off the lead.

Jenny Lee of Fullerton lost in the third round of match play at the USGA Girls’ Junior Golf Championship, played on the 6,138-yard, par-73 Meadow Lark Country Club Course in Great Falls, Mont.

Jenny Chuasiriporn of Timonium, Md., defeated Lee, 1-up. Chuasiriporn went on to lose to Molly Cooper of Tumwater, Wash., in 20 holes in the quarterfinals.

In the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, Kevin Claborn of Brea lost to Scott Kammann of White Pine, Tenn., in 20 holes in the third round of match play at the Eagle Bend golf course in Bigfork, Mont. Claborn beat Chad Rogers of Lincoln, Neb., 3 and 2, in the second round.

Cecelia Ampuero of Newport Beach defeated Agoura Hills’ Erin Boisclain, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, at the Beverly Hills Tennis Club.

With her victory, Ampuero advances to the July 30-31 qualifying tournament for the Toshiba Tennis Classic, which will be Aug. 1-7 at La Costa Resort.

Sandy Zubrin of Newport Beach and Joy Burkholder of Mission Viejo advanced to Sunday’s platform diving finals at the World Diving Trials in St. Peters, Mo. Zubrin, representing the Mission Viejo Nadadores, finished ninth with 346.23 points in Thursday’s trials. Burkholder was 10th with 332.22 points.

Darryl Holiday has been named wrestling coach at Newport Harbor, the school announced. He takes over for Cory Oldroyd. Holiday, 25, who will serve as a walk-on coach, was an assistant with the Sailors last season.

Harry Hutcheson, former girls’ soccer coach at Capistrano Valley, will take a similar position at Murrieta Valley this fall, he said. Hutcheson, 30, led the Cougars to a 39-10-7 record the past two seasons, reaching the Southern Section Division I semifinals in March. He will teach social studies. Hutcheson’s replacement at Capistrano Valley is John Bolger, who is returning to the position he vacated after a one-year stint two years ago.

The Balboa Bay Blue volleyball club of Newport Beach took the bronze medal at the National 14-and-under Junior Olympics volleyball competition in Austin, Tex.

Beau Rawi of Balboa Bay Blue was named first-team All-American; teammate Marcus Skaceo was named to the second team and Scott Archbold to the third.
