VENTURA : Freeway On-Ramp Ideas Will Be Sought
Ventura will schedule a public meeting on the design of a southbound freeway on-ramp at Seaward Avenue, following heated objections by nearby residents to a design proposal submitted by the state Department of Transportation.
The Caltrans sketch calls for widening the Seaward Avenue freeway overpass and constructing a southbound on-ramp on Peninsula Street. Caltrans expects to spend $9.5 million on the project.
The new on-ramp, which would replace the one now on Seaward Avenue, is designed to relieve the congestion at the crowded Seaward Avenue-Harbor Boulevard interchange.
Some residents of the Ventura Keys oppose the redesign because they fear it will generate more traffic in their neighborhood.
“This will cause excessive noise pollution and a further drop in property value” in the community, Peninsula Street resident David Hefferich told the Ventura City Council this week.
Because council members felt they needed more public input on the issue, they said they will schedule another meeting at which residents may again offer suggestions for what the on-ramp should look like.
