Noe Wins Twice at Junior Amateur

Terry Noe of Fullerton advanced to the third round in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship Thursday at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, N.J.

Noe defeated Hunter Haas of Ft. Worth, 3 and 2, in the first round of match play and then eliminated Edward Loar of Rockwall, Tex., 2 and 1. Ted Oh of Torrance also advanced to the third round.

Fullerton’s Jin Park beat Ben Wilkens of Norwalk, Ohio, 5 and 3, then lost to Jeremy Anderson of Lake Mary, Fla., 3 and 2.

Jenny Lee of Fullerton finished fifth in the American Junior Golf Assn.’s Betsy Rawls Girls’ National Championship when rain washed out the final round at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del.

Lee finished with a two-round total of five-over 147. Grace Park of Phoenix was the winner at 142.

Placentia’s John Lee had a three-over 75 for a 153 total to fall 13 shots off the lead after two rounds of the American Junior Golf Assn.’s Oklahoma Junior Classic in Tulsa. Jeff Fahrenbruch of Plano, Tex., leads the boys’ 15-18 division at 140.

Tim Murphy, who was fired as a UC Irvine assistant basketball coach in April after eight years in the Anteater program, has been hired as an assistant at Division II Cal State San Bernardino. Murphy, brother of former Irvine standout Tod Murphy, will work under first-year Coach Denny Aye.
