Cecil Gets Mission Viejo Baseball Job
Jeff Cecil, an assistant coach at Laguna Hills the last two seasons, has been named varsity baseball coach at Mission Viejo High, pending approval by the Saddleback Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees.
Cecil replaces Pat Wren, who resigned after one season in which the Diablos went 4-20 and 1-14 in the South Coast League. Before coming to Laguna Hills, Cecil was head coach at La Verne Damien High for one season.
Mike Jagd was re-hired as the girls’ volleyball coach at El Toro High. Jagd coached the South Coast League champion El Toro boys’ volleyball team last season and coached the El Toro girls’ team from 1985-1991.
George Fuller, who has been an assistant basketball coach for the past 10 years at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich., has been named to a similar position at Cal State Fullerton by Coach Brad Holland.
Fuller’s brother, Tony, is the head coach at Pepperdine and was an assistant with Holland at UCLA under Coach Jim Harrick.
Fuller replaces Chris Brazier on the Titan staff, which also includes Bob Hawking and George Tuttle.
Fuller was a starting point guard for three conference championship seasons under Coach Tony Villemure, who hired him as an assistant. He graduated from Grand Valley State in 1978 and received a master’s degree in 1983.
Grand Valley has been 101-42 in the last five seasons.
