OUTLOOK

With a strong offensive line led by first-team all-league selection Fewel at guard and a good running back in Montgomery, Turek believes the Warriors have a good chance to repeat their league-winning performance of last year. And though he acknowledges his defensive secondary will need some work, he does return all-league defensive end Heaton and linebacker Vasquez, who plan to vex opponents and cause general mayhem. Overall, Turek said the team is fired up and can’t wait for the season to begin. “They really want Rancho (Alamitos) again,” Turek said. “They knocked us out in the first round (of playoffs) and you can understand we would like another shot at them.” In comparison to other Freeway League teams, Troy has some good depth with 21 returning lettermen and nine starters from last year. And whether or not senior Kevin Gray will be able to fill the gap left by All-League quarterback Brian Logan, it is still too early to see if the 6 foot-1 Gray can pull it off.
