THOUSAND OAKS : Woman in Sex Case Again Denies Guilt

Share

A 36-year-old Thousand Oaks woman charged with seducing an underage boy pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Ventura County Superior Court and is scheduled to go to trial in November.

Superior Court Judge Joe D. Hadden set a November trial date for Gloria G. Goldman, a former schoolteacher.

Wednesday marked the second time Goldman has pleaded not guilty to charges of having sex with the teen-ager. Prosecutors say she had a 2 1/2-year affair with the youth, who is now 18.

Goldman was originally charged in the case in Municipal Court last May.

But those charges were dropped when a Superior Court judge ruled that the lower court erred during the preliminary hearing by barring a defense witness from testifying. Lawyers say the witness, a defense investigator, was going to testify that the victim had recanted his allegations.

However, the Ventura County grand jury returned a 32-count indictment against her Aug. 26, reinstituting the case. She is charged with 11 counts of lewd acts against a child, 19 counts of oral copulation with a child and two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

The latter two counts were filed under a new law that took effect in January that allows women in California to face charges for engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor. Previously, only men could face such charges.
