OUTLOOK

Last season was unprecedented for the Heralds, who previously had had only one losing season since starting 11-man football in 1973. But it was an extremely young team--eight sophomores were starters--and Caffrey believes the Heralds will get it together again this season. They will try to get things done on the ground behind an offensive line that averages 235 pounds. Valdez, Cuccia and Machuca will share time at tailback. The defense, which gave up 27 points a game last year largely because of inexperience, is mostly back.
