PREP FOOTBALL / Saturday Pullout : Price Rallies Bolsa Grande Past Laguna Beach

Share

Quarterback David Price rallied Bolsa Grande to two fourth-quarter touchdowns and a 12-10 season-opening victory over host Laguna Beach in front of about 800 Friday.

Price, a senior, completed a 41-yard touchdown pass to Paul Sharp to open the quarter, cutting the deficit to 10-6. The two-point conversion failed.

He then zig-zagged for an 80-yard touchdown with 3 minutes 23 seconds left after a missed 41-yard field-goal attempt by the Artists.

Laguna Beach had an opportunity to win with 1:09 remaining, but kicker Brad Bohn, who earlier made a 41-yard attempt, never had a chance, because the snap from center was bad.

Price completed four of eight passes for 67 yards and has two pass interceptions, but led Bolsa Grande in rushing with 127 yards in eight carries. The Matadors totaled only 29 yards in the first half, but finished with 257.

Quarterback Nate Pivaroff, who tore his anterior cruciate in the eighth game last season, led his team up and down the field, throwing for 103 of his team’s 147 yards. His 35-yard touchdown pass to Liam McDonagh with 4:10 left before halftime made the score 10-0.

And when linebacker Marcus Weenig made an interception and fumble recovery to halt the Matadors’ first two second-half drives, Laguna Beach felt it was in control of the game.
