Clay OK for North Hollywood

Sophomore Dante Clay was granted unrestricted eligibility to play football at North Hollywood High this season by vote of the City Section rules committee Wednesday.

Clay was thrust into the spotlight in the spring when Taft Coach Troy Starr was caught actively recruiting the promising running back, who played on Crespi’s freshmen team last season.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Clay, who visited Taft and was given a campus tour by Starr, will play Friday in North Hollywood’s game against Franklin.

“He has great speed and he’s a natural runner . . . the type of runner we haven’t had at North Hollywood in a long time,” Huskie Coach Gary Gray said. “He’ll have an immediate impact on our program.”

Clay, 15, who returned to Walter Reed Junior High after the football season last year, had to apply for eligibility because he transferred schools without changing residence. Walter Reed is a feeder school for North Hollywood.
