Bell-Jeff 12, Burroughs 7--Linebacker David Matekel tackled receiver Tony Listro after a seven-yard gain on a fourth-and-10 play from midfield with 30 seconds to play to preserve the victory for the host Guards.

Matekel also had a 72-yard pass reception on a scoring drive that gave Bell-Jeff a 12-0 lead late in the third quarter. The Guards (1-1) marched 91 yards in nine plays, scoring on a two-yard run by James Jackson.

Danny Hughes scored Bell-Jeff’s first touchdown with 2:12 to play in the first half on a three-yard end run, capping an 11-play, 94-yard drive.

Burroughs scored on a one-yard run by Carlos Moreno with 6:35 to play after driving 67 yards in 13 plays. Moreno rushed for 115 yards in 21 carries.

Jackson rushed for 87 yards in 12 carries. Quarterback Richard Szeptycki completed four of nine for 127 yards.

Burroughs (1-1) quarterback Scott Boldvich completed only two of 10 for 18 yards with two interceptions in the first half. He came back strong in the second half to finish 15 of 33 for 142 yards.
